Dear Prospective WCSMF Orthopedic Fellow,
The WCSMF is proud to offer an exciting Orthopedic Sports Medicine/Foot and Ankle Fellowship. We run a very busy orthopedic practice here at the WCSMF. You will get a significant amount of surgical experience with Keith S. Feder, MD and Carol Frey, MD, sharing time between the two orthopedic surgeons, in addition to working with William Hohl, MD at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The primary hospital for surgery is Centinela Freeman Medical Center, and, in addition, two out patient surgery centers are utilized.
The West Coast Sports Medicine Foundation offers a unique Sports Medicine/Arthroscopic Surgery/Articular Cartilage Repair Fellowship Position. Surgical Exposure includes: Ligament Reconstruction of the Shoulder and Knee, Meniscus Repair, Meniscus Allograft Implantation, Autograft/Allograft OATS, Tibial/Femoral Osteotomy and a Comprehensive Foot and Ankle experience.
The fellow will participate directly with the care of High School, College and Professional Athletes, in addition to junior college athletics. Research and Teaching opportunities are also offered. The WCSMF runs a high school outreach clinic on Saturday mornings (Fall ONLY), for football, where we see local high school athletic injuries. This clinic is offered to all of the Team to Win high schools. More information about the Team to Win program can be found on our web site at www.wcswportsmed.com.
The Team to Win outreach program is a community outreach program for high school athletes who cannot afford sports medicine care. The WCSMF puts certified athletic trainers out at 22 high schools each year, and sideline physicians out at football games on Friday nights. The fellow will be responsible for covering Friday night football, in addition to working Saturday injury clinics along side other physicians and surgeons. In addition the fellow will be the primary team physician of a Junior College in the area. This responsibility will require Saturday football games (approximately 5 total games per season). The WCSMF in partnership with Kaiser and Harbor UCLA runs a family practice sports medicine fellowship, and takes two (2) family practice fellows each year to assist with the Team to Win program.
The WCSMF Team to Win program is a fast paced program, and FALL (football season) is the busiest. We slow down considerably once football is over, but we like to make sure that any MD applying for this fellowship, understands that the fall is very busy for any orthopedic practice, but, especially one focused on high school and college sports.
The applicant must be Board-certified/eligible and obtain a California License. This is a 1 Year Fellowship and will begin on August 1 through July 31.
Thank you for your interest in the WCSMF,
Sincerely,
Keith S. Feder, MD, Co-Fellowship Director
Carol Frey, MD, Co-Fellowship Director
Jill Sleight, ATC, WCSMF Director, Jill@wcsportsmed.com
